Janice Willadean Silverthorn

Janice Willadean Silverthorn, 87, of Rossville, was peacefully called to heaven on Thursday, November 26, 2015.  Janice was born January 31, 1928, to Ralph and Iris (Beard) Thompson of Michigantown.

Janice graduated from Michigantown High School in 1945.  On January 31, 1928, she married Robert C. Silverthorn at the Hopewell United Methodist Church.

She was employed at the Clinton County Bank and a bookkeeper at several auto dealerships; Horners, DeFouw, Foxworthy, Andrews, the GMC Truck Dealership, and Adams Chevrolet.  Janice loved new cars and that new car smell.

Janice and Bob started the Sundae Corner Ice Cream and the E-Z Car Wash uptown at the old Texaco Station.  Several years later they stared the first Pizza King in Rossville which is currently Arni’s Pizza.  Always staying in the car business loop, Janice finished her career by returning to work at the Indianapolis Auto Auction in Indianapolis.

Janice was a member of the Rossville Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Homer Cameron Unit #342, Mother’s Club, Present Day Club and several bridge clubs in Rossville.

Janice loved butterflies and flowers.  She worked lovingly in her flower beds for hours.  Her butterfly collection ranged from jewelry to art to clothing and wind chimes to name a few.  She also loved collecting Emmett Kelly clown figurines.  She was an avid card giver, never missing an opportunity to celebrate an occasion or encourage someone.

Janice and Bob loved to travel the U.S. stretching from Boston to Hawaii and Alaska and many places in between.  Over the past 38 years, Janice really enjoyed the love and care of her sort of adopted other kids, Dale and Debbie Luper and Mike and Madonna Starkey.  She loved road trips and antiquing with her son, Larry.  She loved life and all it had to offer.  She especially loved her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.

Surviving Janice are her children, Jerry & Candy Silverthorn of Rossville, Sandra McIrath of Anderson, and Larry & Mary Silverthorn of Seal Rock, Oregon; her grandchildren, Scott & Gina Silverthorn, Andy & Jessica Silverthorn, Heather (McIlrath) & Derek Yoder, Ryan and Kyle McIlrath; and her great grandchildren, Corey Silverthorn, Samantha Silverthorn, Megan Silverthorn, Brody Silverthorn, Isaiah Silverthorn, Grace Silverthorn, Ashley Yoder, Natalie Yoder, and Tyler Yoder.

Visitation for Janice will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2015, at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.  Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 30, 2015, at the funeral home with Chaplain Rick Fay.  Janice will be laid to rest at the Rossville Cemetery family grave site next to Bob.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rossville Volunteer Ambulance, Rossville Volunteer Fire Department, or Rossville Presbyterian Church.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
