Jerry C. Carter
Jerry Clinton Carter, 68, Frankfort, passed away on August 21, 2012 after battling an illness for several years. Jerry was born in Frankfort, IN on December 30, 1943.
He graduated from Clinton Prairie High School and received bachelor and masters degrees from Purdue University. He was active in 4-H and FFA.
For many years, he farmed with his father in Clinton County. Seeking a different path, he returned to Purdue and taught classes in geology and anatomy and physiology.
In the mid 1980âs, he and his wife started a business they called The Electronic Bookshelf. For almost fifteen years, he worked alongside his wife, and later his daughter, to help lead this business that sold software for a reading motivation/management program. This reading program is used in thousands of schools around the world.
Jerry was a deacon and board member of Manson Congregational Christian Church, The Burning Hearts Community Emmaus Group, and the Purdue Chapter of Delta Upsilon. He sang in the Varsity Glee Club at Purdue and continued his love of singing in the Manson Church Choir led by his wife.
He was a man of many hobbies, never at a loss for words or diverse interests to pursue. His hobbies included flying, collecting rocks, Indian artifacts, and fossils, landscaping/gardening, scuba diving/snorkeling, bird watching, boating, travel, and raising and showing livestock.
He is survived by his mother, Joan Purcifull Carter of Frankfort, IN; son Richard Trevor Carter and his wife Marianne Swartz Carter of Indianapolis, IN; daughter Colleen Carter Ster and her husband Brian Thomas Ster of San Diego, CA; and five grandchildren Caroline Rose Ster, Morgan MacKenzie Carter, Ryan Clinton Carter, Alexandra Joanne Ster and Isabelle Angelite Ster.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie Mennen Carter.
