Jerry D. Burns, 74, a lifelong resident of Flora, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014, at his home.
He was born October 22, 1939, in Flora, the son of Paul and Marie Peterson Burns. On December 16, 1989, he married Leola Copas; she survives.
Jerry worked for 38 years for Chrysler Corp. in the transmission department as a set-up man while also working for Adams Standard. After his retirement from Chrysler, he worked for the Flora Community Park and YMCA. He was a member of Living Faith Church of the Brethren, member of UAW #685, and former member of Lions Club. He enjoyed golf, Purdue sports, and gardening.
In addition to his wife, Jerry is survived by his children, Jerry Kevin Burns (wife, Kristine), Carroll County Sheriff Tony L. Burns (wife, Melody), Pamela L. Flora, Wade Flora (wife, Amanda), Wesley Wayne Langston, Jason Scott Burns (wife, Aimee); two brothers, Dick Burns (wife, Marlene) and Bill Burns (wife, Ruth); 14 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert Burns; and one sister, Dortha DeWenter.
Visitation for Jerry will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, from 4:00 â 8:00 p.m. at Genda Funeral Home Reinke Chapel in Flora. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Living Faith Church of the Brethren in Flora with Pastor Jeff Tomson officiating.
