Jerry Eugene âMongoâ Thompson, 61, of Frankfort, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013, at his home.
He was born July 12, 1951, in Frankfort, the son of Carlos âChinkâ and Phyllis Haverstick Thompson; his father and step-mother, Mary Anne, survive. Jerry married the former Wendy V. Ratliff; she survives.
In 1969, Jerry graduated from Frankfort Senior High School. Jerry worked for Scheid Oldsmobile-Cadillac in the body shop before graduating from the Police Academy in 1976. He served as a Frankfort City Police Officer for 23 years before retiring in 1998. Jerry served his community in several other areas including Head of Maintenance for Frankfort Public Library for 14 years, the only president of the Clinton County Civic Theatre for 25 years, and president of the Frankfort Jaycees from 1980-1981 and 1984-1985. He was inducted into the Jaycee International Senate on March 26, 1986. Jerry was active in the Frankfort Moose Golf League. Jerry acted and directed many productions and helped with set design and construction with the Clinton County Civic Theatre and acted with the Red Barn Theatre. Jerry also enjoyed woodworking. The âThompson Toursâ would visit âThe Mouseâ as an annual event in which he shared the many secrets of Disney.
In addition to his wife, father, and step-mother, Jerry is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Craig) Whitcomb; three brothers, Bruce Thompson of Elwood, Scott Thompson of Brooksville, Fla., and Mark Thompson of Frankfort; and two grandsons, Rob and Seth.
As per request, come celebrate Jerryâs life at Arborwood in Frankfort from 4:00 â 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2013. To share in Jerryâs love for Disney especially Mickey Mouse, memorials in Jerryâs name may be to Kiddâs Kids, an organization that sends chronically ill or physically challenged children to Walt Disney World in Florida.
