Joan L. Jackson, 91, of Flora, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017, at Waterford Health Campus in Kokomo.
She was born in Deer Creek Township in Carroll County on November 4, 1925, the daughter of Charles T. and Jesse L. Kirkpatrick Beougher. Joan married James Farris Abbott; he preceded her in death on April 22, 1954. On April 4, 1957, Joan married Matthew âPeteâ Jackson; he preceded her in death on March 24, 2014.
Joan graduated from Camden High School. Throughout her life, she was an active member of the community. Joan was elected and served as the Carroll County Recorder from 1957 to 1964. She later ran for Carroll County Treasurer. Joan and Pete attended the 1964 National Democratic Convention. Joanâs other professional career was in the area of real estate, working for Yount Realty and later Shook Agency in Lafayette. She owned and operated the Joan Jackson Realty in Flora for a period of time. Joan was an active member of the Carroll County Historical Society, inputting historical information in the computer system for the Society. She was a member of Flora First Christian Church where she sang in the choir, played the organ, and served in a variety of areas. Joan enjoyed reading and cross-word puzzles. She was always up for a board game or a game of cards with family and friends. He smile was her trademark and filled the room with joy.
Surviving Joan are four children, Larry (Patti) Abbott, of Beverly Hills, FL, Penne Platt, of Kingwood, TX, Tom (Audrey) Abbott, of Williamsport, and Sandra Abbott, of Williston, FL; five step-children, Sandra Schafer, of Sycamore, OH, Alan (Linda) Jackson, of Burlington, Stephen (Carol) Jackson, of Peru, Scott (Pam) Jackson, of Huntington, and Marilyn (Mel) Lowery, of London, OH; sister, Doris Sink, of Marion; 18 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Joan is preceded in death by her son, Terry Abbott, brothers, George, Willis, and Don Beougher; and sister, Theressa Isaacs.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Genda Funeral Home Reinke Chapel in Flora, from 2:00 â 5:00 p.m. Funeral service to celebrate Joanâs life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Camden Cemetery. Memorials in Joanâs name may be made to the M.E. âPeteâ and Joan Jackson Carroll County Community Foundation (CCCF) which benefits the Carroll County Historical Society.
