Joan L. Pence

Joan L. Pence, 53, of Lafayette, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2015, at St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette.

She was born December 21, 1961, in Frankfort, to Dale F. and Inez Payne Pence; her parents preceded her in death.

Joan was a 1980 graduate of Frankfort High School, received her bachelor of science in education from Purdue University, and later earned her master of science in special education from Ball State University.  She retired from Frontier Schools after 20 years as a special education teacher.  Joan was a member of First Baptist Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and N.E.A.

Surviving are one sister, Teresa “Terri” Grubb of Lafayette; two brothers, Dale Pence Jr. and John Pence, both of San Antonio, TX; three nephews, Brian Grubb, Brandon Grubb, and Bradley Grubb; two nieces, Kassandra Pence and Kaitlinn Pence; and several great nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Joan will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at the funeral home with Pastor Thom Redmond officiating.  Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort.  Memorials in Joan’s name may be made to a local animal shelter of the donor’s choice.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
