Joan M. Burns

Joan M. Burns, 88, of Lafayette, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette.

She was born October 16, 1925, in Lahore, Pakistan, to Edwin and Iris Buchannan Rumfitt.

Joan worked for Lafayette Travel Services for over 25 years.  She was a member of Trinity Church in Mulberry, Mulberry Garden Club, and Mulberry Community Club.   Joan was a regular volunteer at Mulberry Health and Retirement Community.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing cards, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving Joan are her son, Brian (Phyllis) Peck; two sisters, Joyce Johnston (Colin Gibbon) and Marjorie Crehan; two grandchildren, Chris (Rhonda) Peck and Sarah Pickett (James Frazier); three great grandchildren, Jackson Frazier, Alexa Peck, and Zachary Peck; and several nieces and nephews.

Joan is preceded in death by three husbands, Robert L. Peck, Donald W. Lowman, and Kenneth Burns; and her parents.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Trinity Church in Mulberry, from 10:00 a.m. to the start of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Phil Whisler officiating.  Memorials in Joan’s name may be made to Trinity Church in Mulberry.  Arrangements are entrusted to Genda Funeral Home Mulberry Chapel.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
