John C. Spooner, 91, of Flora, passed away on Sunday June 11, 2017 at Milners Community Health Care. John was born on November 24, 1925 in Maroa, Illinois, the son of the late Charles J. and Bessie Mae (Smith) Spooner. On August 8, 1949 in Rantoul, Illinois John married Ruth M. Spooner whom survives.
A graduate of Maroa High School March of 1944 and University of Illinois, February of 1948. John worked for Sears and Roebuck retiring after 37 years of service. On August 7, 1949 john Married Ruth M. Fuller in Rantoul, IL. Whom survives him.
John was a Navy Veteran of World War II, and a member of the Flora First Christian Church; were he was a former church board member. He was a former Scout Leader, Little League Manager, Member of the Flora Lions Club and a member of the American Legion. John enjoyed golfing and fishing.
Surviving relatives include; wife of 67 years, sons, Charles (Janet) Spooner of Flora and James (Rebecca) Spooner of Boca Raton, Florida, 4 grandchildren; Scott (Holly) Spooner, Matt Spooner, Jake and Mike Spooner, 2 great-grandchildren; Grace Addison Spooner and Gentry Spooner.
Proceeded in death by; parents, son, John D. Spooner, brother; James Albert Spooner, sisters; Helen Mallinson and Mary Armstrong.
Memorial services will be Thursday June 29, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Flora First Christian Church. Inurnment will be at Maple Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before service. Memorial contributions can be in Johns honor to the Flora First Christian Church.
