John E. Stock, 73, of Lafayette, passed away Monday, August 12, 2013, at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
He was born May 9, 1940, in Lafayette, the son of Leo Albin âAbeâ and Vera Taylor Stock; his mother survives. On October 26, 1963, he married the former Donna Hays at St. Maryâs Catholic Church in Frankfort; she survives.
John graduated Michigantown High School in 1958, and went into farming with his dad, farming most of his life in the Michigantown area where his family was raised. In 1993, John moved to Lafayette where he spent 17 years on the Cary Quad maintenance team at Purdue before retiring in 2011. He had been a past member of the Michigantown Alumni Association, Michigantown Community Fair, Lions Club, Frankfort Toastmasters, and the Indiana State Young Farmerâs Association, serving many terms as officers in those organizations. He was also a 45 year member of Clinton Central Pioneer Farmers.
He was a member of St. Maryâs Catholic Church in Frankfort and had attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in West Lafayette. John was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and served two terms as Frankfort K of Câs Grand Knight. More recently, John had become involved with the Purdue Boilermaker Network, serving several terms as an officer. John loved camping, flower gardening, Purdue Womenâs Basketball, making pens in partnership with his Godson, John Boyce, and spending time with his family; he never met a stranger.
In addition to his wife and mother, John is survived by two sons, Darryl (Ann) Stock of Carmel, and Neal (Candy) Stock of Westfield; one daughter, Patty Reames of Lafayette; one sister, Sharon Shuemak of Cincinnati, OH; seven grandchildren, Lori, Faith, Levi, Bryant, Brenden, Emily, and Melanie; and five great grandchildren, Julian, Maddox, Link, Royce, and Ollie.
Visitation will be held at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort on Thursday, August 15, 2013, from 4-7 p.m. with Rosary Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Maryâs Catholic Church in Frankfort on Friday, August 16, 2013, with Fr. Chris Miller presiding. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort.
