John Frank Lowery, 94, of Pyrmont, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Mulberry Health and Retirement Center.
He was born on March 30, 1919, the son of George L. and Frances C. Hildenbrand Lowery. He married Helen Frances Pearson on June 8, 1939; she preceded him in death on December 16, 2010.
John was raised in the Otterbein area and moved to Pyrmont in 1967. He graduated from Otterbein High School. He was employed 10 years with the State of Indiana with the Administrative Building Council of Indiana and as Chief Inspector for 4 years. This office is now with the State Fire Marshal Office. The highlight of his career was the inspection of the electrical plans of the Hoosier Dome and approving the construction. John was also employed 7 years at Fairfield Manufacturing, and Brown Rubber while still in high school. He retired in 1998 from Electronical Testing Labs of Cortland, NY and traveled Indiana, Eastern Illinois, Northern KY, Western Ohio and Southern MI for 14 years. He is an Army Veteran of WWII as a military policeman stationed in Missouri and Colorado. He is a life member of Disabled American Veterans, Indianapolis, and life member of Rossville American Legion. John was also a member of the United Brethren at Otterbein.
John is survived by three sons, Jerry L. (Vivian Joan) of Pyrmont, Gordon W. (Kay), of Lafayette, and Jack E. (Susan) of Frankfort; one brother, Fritz Lowery of Lafayette; two sisters, Lois Lewis of Lafayette and Betty (Leslie) Moberly of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Gene K. Lowery, one brother, and one sister.
Visitation for John will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel from 11 a.m. until the start of the service. Funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. with Guy Studebaker officiating. Burial will follow at Pyrmont Cemetery in Pyrmont, IN. Memorials may be made to Pyrmont Cemetery.
