John Robert ""Bob"" Vinard

John Robert “Bob” Vinard, 72, of Pyrmont, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at his home.

He was born July 14, 1944, in Francesville, to the late James Clayton and Myrtle Marion Wagoner Vinard.  On September 30, 1967,  Bob married Cindy Niemantsverdriet; she preceded him in death in 1991.  On May 11, 1996, he married Mary N. Phalen; she survives.

Bob graduated from Rossville High School in 1962.  While attending Barber School in Indianapolis, he worked as an orderly at Methodist hospital.  Upon returning to Rossville, Bob was a barber for several years and was also one of the first EMT’s with the Rossville Volunteer Ambulance Service. He then received his Registered Respiratory Therapist license after graduating from Ivy Tech in Lafayette.  Before retiring in November, 2011, he worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital for 11 years as a respiratory therapist and 14 years in the implementation and operation of their sleep study clinic as a polysomnographer.    

He was a member of Kelley Crossing Church of God in Frankfort, FCRV, NCHA, and Lafayette Stick Kickers.  Bob enjoyed camping and woodworking.  His pride and joy were his grandchildren; wherever they were, he could be found no matter the activity.

In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his son, Rick Vinard (Kai Wang), of San Francisco; daughter, Missy (Ron) Younker, of Pyrmont; sister, Nancy Jane (Melvin) Coy, of New Whiteland; honorary sister, Marsha Fecht; grandchildren, Bobby Foster-Vinard, Ann (Justin) Thiele, Kendra Younker, Regan Younker, and Rileigh Younker; and four great-grandsons, Brayden, Timothy, Dakota, and Easton.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2017, at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor Daniel Miller officiating.  Burial will follow in Pyrmont Cemetery.  Memorials in Bob’s name may be made to Franciscan Health Foundation Sleep Lab or Rossville Volunteer Ambulance Service.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
