John M. âTexâ Townsley, 62, of Mulberry, died at 5:06 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, at Witham Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 14, 1949 in Danville, IL to Joe and Grace (Gray) Townsley. Mr. Townsley lived the past 16 years in Mulberry and previously lived in Lafayette. He married Katherine Sue Hammel on April 19, 1997.
Mr. Townsley worked for Carpetland for 25 years as an estimator. He was also a handyman. He was a member of Star Lanes Moon League, and he was a past president of the league. He attended Mulberry United Methodist Church, and he was a graduate from Danville, IL in 1967. He was an avid Illinois fan, loved sports, crossword puzzles and fishing. He also loved his dog Sophie.
Surviving are his wife, Katherine, Mulberry; 2 sisters, Diane (husband Tom) Byrket, Danville, IL and Jane Townsley of Lafayette. Also surviving is a sister in law Lisa Townsley and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents and one brother, Jeff âYogiâ.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 at Fair Haven Cemetery with pastor Nancy Richmond officiating. Visitation will be between 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Bodine Funeral Home, Mulberry.
Memorials may be given to the family to help with funeral expenses.
