John Wilford O'Dell

John Wilford O’Dell, 74, a lifelong resident of Rossville, died on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at his home.

He was born September 27, 1938, in Lafayette, the son of Wilford Donald and Mary Ellen Haase O’Dell.

On September 21, 1963, he married the former Marie Elaine Clark in Cherokee County, Iowa; she survives.

John was a 1957 graduate of Southwestern High School.  John served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War.  He was a sheet metal worker for 30 years before retiring in 1996 and a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 20.  John was also a member of the American Legion Post 492, 40&8, and Beta Phi Sigma; he enjoyed woodworking and welding.  John was an avid arborist.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Yvonne L. (Hal) Snyder, Joanna O’Dell Krauskopf, Tina Marie (John) Muckenfuss, and John W. O’Dell II; sisters, Liz (Ron) Raines and Carole O’Dell; grandchildren, Jason F. Snyder, Stephanie (Brad) R. Adams, Jeremy A. Snyder, Derek S. Strong, Kyle E. Strong, Brandon M. Strong, Tyler J. Krauskopf, and Abbey M. Krauskopf; great grandson, Jackson Monroe Strong; and pet dog, Lucky.

He is preceded in death by his parents, foster parents, Dutch and Dorothy Vaught; three sisters, Peggy Cogswell, Gloria Jean Robinson, and Angie Curtis; and three brothers, Larry Eugene O’Dell, Robert Lee O’Dell, and Alan Dean O’Dell.

No services will be held at this time.  Arrangements are entrusted to Genda Funeral Home-Rossville Chapel.

Memorials in John’s name may be made to the funeral home to help the family with expenses.
