LaDonna K. Allen, 86, of Flora, passed away on Monday evening, February 15, 2016, at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
LaDonna was born on April 22, 1929 in Shelbyville, IN to Clarence Franklin Shields and Ima Blanche Mitchell Shields. She graduated from Flora High School in 1947. On May 18, 1947 LaDonna married the love of her life, Walter F. Allen, who preceded her in death on October 8, 2010. LaDonna worked for Carroll County in the City Clerkâs office where she headed up the election boards and also worked as the Deputy Treasurer for Carroll County. LaDonna later worked for The Carroll County Comet as a bookkeeper before her retirement.
LaDonna was a member of First Christian Church in Flora, where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. She also served on the Religious Education Board for Carroll County. LaDonna was also an active member of Eastern Star where she had served in all of the chairs and as a Worthy Matron. She was also a member The Delta Theta Chi Society where she held all offices as well as Providence President. LaDonna was active with the Democratic Party where she had been honored with an award for serving for over 50 years on the election board. She was one of the founders of the Hog Jog, a former Girl Scout leader and helped start the Girls Softball League in Flora as well as serving as a coach.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Foist of Gilbert, AZ, and Sheryl Deubel and son-in-law, William J. Deubel Jr., of Scottsdale, AZ; five grandchildren, William John Deubel III, Stephany Bagby, Christina Coon, Aaron Foist and Caleb Foist; 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and one brother, Paul R. Shields of TN.
LaDonna was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, William Joseph Shields and Forest Shields.
Funeral services for LaDonna K. Allen will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at First Christian Church in Flora, at 3:00 pm with burial immediately following at Maple Lawn Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Genda Funeral Home Reinke Chapel in Flora, on Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
