LaVerne Alta (Wiles) Von Ahrens

LaVerne Alta Von Ahrens, 91, of Flora, passed away February 28, 2024, at Franciscan Health Hospital in Lafayette.  She was born March 29, 1932, in Flora to Thurman and Zelda (Clawson) Wiles.  She married Richard Von Ahrens on November 19, 1960, and he survives.

LaVerne was a 1950 graduate of Flora High School where she was class secretary. She was a life member of Flora Christian Church.  She enjoyed growing flowers, going to area festivals, going to the park and feed the ducks.  LaVerne loved above all caring for her family.  She took care of her mother for years, and enjoyed being at home raising her children, and loved being a grandmother.  She enjoyed making memories with her family, especially with her grandchildren.  

Along with her husband of 63 years, LaVerne is survived by her daughters, Karla (Dan) Calvin of Flora and Karen (Steve) Klinger of Avilla; granddaughters, Ashley Klinger and Brittany Klinger; grandson, Tyler Klinger; step-grandson, Luke (Jennifer) Calvin; step-great grandchildren, Dakota Riley, Evan Calvin, and Emmett Calvin; great grandchildren, Riley, Adam, Thomas, Emma, Natalie and Aiden; two sisters-in-law, Nadine and Donna Wiles; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Wilber, Ivan, Burl, Morris, Huey, and John Wiles; and a step-grandson, Jake Calvin.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 1- 5pm at Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Reinke Chapel.  Funeral services will be held Monday, March 4, 2024, at 1pm at the funeral home.  Pastor Ben Lantzer will officiate.  Burial will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made in LaVerne’s honor to Flora Christian Church.  Messages of condolence may be made at www.dayandgenda.com.
