Leland Cowell Hanson, 82, of Flora, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Health Care in Delphi.
He was born October 7, 1930, in Crawford County, Missouri, and raised by his grandparents, Bessie and Arlist Hanson. Leland married the former Shirley James on June 1, 1957, in Flora; she preceded him in death.
Leland graduated from Steelville High School in 1948. He served the Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War. Leland worked at Globe Valve for many years, some of that time serving as a Union Steward. He retired in 1992. In his younger years, Leland enjoyed squirrel and rabbit hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting. Also, he was always very proud of his garden. In recent years, he very much enjoyed family time and visits with his friends.
Surviving Leland are his children, Rick Hanson of Camden, Fonda (Kenny) Buschman of Brookston, Theresa (Mike) Brown of Delphi, and Chris Hanson of Indianapolis; four granddaughters, one grandson, one great granddaughter, two great grandsons; and sister, Matred David of St. Louis, MO.
In addition to his wife, Leland is preceded in death by one son, Jeffery Lee Hanson.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2013, at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora with a gathering of family and friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. Inurnment will follow in the cemetery with military graveside honors provided by the Carroll County Honor Guard.
