LeRoy David Good

LeRoy David Good, 101, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022, in his home.  He was born June 8, 1920, at his grandparents’ home in Clinton County to Willard and Beatrice (Carter) Good.  He married Virginia Jean Carter on April 16, 1947, at the Trinity Church parsonage in Mulberry, and she preceded him in death on February 23, 2019.

LeRoy grew up on the family farm and graduated from Jefferson High School (Clinton Co.) in 1937.  At the time of his death, he was the oldest living Jefferson alumnus.  A WWII veteran, he was in the first group of Clinton County draftees to leave Clinton County after Pearl Harbor.  He served from 1942 to 1945 oversees with the 434th Anti-Aircraft Battalion and then as Staff Sergeant in the 473rd Infantry Regiment.  He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star medal, Good Conduct, European Med. Theater Ribbon with six bronze battle stars-Victory medal, and Medal of Occupation. 

After the war, LeRoy farmed and was employed by the Jefferson Co-Op grain elevator for 35 years, beginning as a bookkeeper, then as manager for 30 years.  He was a lifetime member of St. Luke United Church of Christ where he served 40 years as Sunday School Superintendent and also served as a deacon and elder.  He was a member of American Legion #12, life member of VFW #1110, life member of ANZIO Beachhead Association, life member of Combat Infantry Men’s Association, served for 25 years as Secretary-Treasurer of the 434th AA and 473rd Infantry Regiment Association’s newsletter reporter/editor. 

After retirement, LeRoy and Virginia attended many sales and exhibitions where he collected many historic and interesting items.  He gave many programs on the history of Clinton County and all towns within.  LeRoy was a long-time helper and member of the Clinton County Historical Society and was the historical preservationist of Clinton County.  He was also an honorary member of the Chamber of Commerce and Michigantown Lion’s Club.  LeRoy was featured in Mary Patchett’s Book of Clinton County, was 2013 Citizen of the Year, 2012 Clinton County GEM, and was torchbearer for the 2016 Indiana Bicentennial.

LeRoy is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Steve) Jackman; two sons, James “Rick” Good and David (Carol) Good, all of Frankfort; grandchildren, Holly (Nick) Collins of Brownsburg, and Sarah Good of Louisville, KY; two great-grandchildren, Tenley and Ryan Collins; and one sister, Lillian Money of Frankfort.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, an infant daughter, and an infant sister.

Visitation will be Friday, January 21, 2022, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort.  Funeral service with full military rites will be Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastors Shan Sheridan, Ken Rushing and Scott Highlander officiating. Burial will be in Bunnell Cemetery.  Memorials in LeRoy’s honor may be made to Michigantown Lion’s Club, St. Luke UCC, or Clinton County Historical Society.  Messages of condolence may be left at www.gendafuneralhomes.com.
