Lillie M. Powell, 84, formerly of Edna Mills, died at 10:55 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011, at the home of her daughter in Lafayette.
Born May 29, 1926, in Swanington, she was the daughter of the late Chester A. and Toni Jane Leffingwell Mills. She lived 45 years in the Edna Mills area and outside of Rossville from 1949 to 1960.
Mrs. Powell worked as a cook at two sorority houses at Purdue University for six years. She also worked as a housekeeper at Brown Funeral Home, at Mallory for six years and Brown Rubber which became Essex Wire.
She was a member of Rossville United Methodist Church and a former member of Order of Eastern Star. She married Daniel L. Crouch in 1942. They divorced. She married Chester Powell on Sept. 29, 1947, and he died April 27, 1998.
Surviving are five children, Diana Jo Owen of Wisconsin, Linda Paulette Oberlander of Indianapolis, Connie J. Trader of Lafayette, Terry Paul Powell (wife: Joyce) of Peru and Sarah Belle Brown (husband: Bob) of Casey, Ill.; and a brother, Chet Mills (wife: Madge) of Bradenton, Fla. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A son, Daniel Powell, 3 brothers, Gerald, Johnny and Donny and a sister, Velma preceded in death.
