Marie E. Christenson, 92, of Frankfort, died at 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Wesley Manor Retirement Community in Frankfort.
She was born June 27, 1920, in Battle Creek, Mich., the daughter of Carl O. and Margaret Gibson Durrstein.
On July 30, 1955, she married Elmer J. Christenson; he preceded her in death on March 24, 2007.
Throughout her life she resided in Battle Creek and Kalamazoo, Mich., and later Frankfort, Ind. She graduated from both Western Michigan University and later the University of Michigan, receiving a Masterâs in Education. Marie taught fourth and fifth grades at Dowagiac and Battle Creek Public Schools before becoming a principal, being active in childrenâs education. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Women.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Gregg A. and Karen Christenson of Rochester Hill, Mich., and Bruce G. and LeAnna Christenson of Canton, Mich.; one brother, Robert Durrstein of Frankfort; one brother-in-law, William McCampbell of San Antonio, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Jane McCampbell.
Friends and family may call at Wesley Manor Chapel in Frankfort on Sunday, September 16, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. until the memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Jake Fisher will officiate.
Inurnment will be held at a later date in Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek, Mich.
Memorials in Marieâs name may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund of Wesley Manor Retirement Community in Frankfort.
