Martha Belle Hickman

Martha Belle Hickman, 99, of Frankfort, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at Wesley Manor Retirement Community.

She was born September 1, 1917, in Attica, to Orville McKnight and Barkie Belle Galloway Meeker.  On November 24, 1938, she married Thomas A. Hickman in a double wedding; he preceded in her in death on December 11, 2001.

Martha graduated from Jackson Township High School in 1937.  She worked as an inspector at P.R. Mallory for 21 years and later as a home interior decorator for Home Interiors before retiring in 1979.  Martha was a member of Antioch Congregational Christian Church and 50 year member of both the Order of the Eastern Star in Frankfort and MM Mother’s Club.

Surviving are two sons, James K. Hickman and Richard S. (Linda) Hickman, both of Frankfort; daughter, Pat (John) Schimmel, of Frankfort; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and special friend and neighbor Marynell.

In addition to her husband, Martha is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 3, 2016 in Union Christian Cemetery in Newtown, with Pastor David Klipp officiating.  Burial will follow in the cemetery.  Memorials in Martha’s name may be made to Antioch Church, the Manson Congregational Christian Church to Wesley Manor Nurses’ Fund.  Arrangements are entrusted to Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
