Mary Ann Markley, 89, passed away August 28, 2014, at Fair Oaks Hospital in
Fairfax, Virginia. Born October 17, 1924, in Flora, Indiana, she was the
daughter of the late Charles and Cora (Flora) Sibbitt. Her marriage was in
Bloomington, Indiana, on June 21, 1947, to Charles Markley who preceded her in death in 2009.
A 1942 graduate of Carrollton High School, Mary Ann attended Manchester College and Indiana University. She took pride in being a homemaker, loved her family and her pets, indulged in embroidery and gardening, and enjoyed annual summer family trips throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Mary Ann followed her husband's career through several states, teaching Sunday school, serving as a member and officer of several women's church circles, actively participating in the Harris County (Texas) Republicans, and never turning down an opportunity to volunteer for charity work, most notably, the Mother's March of Dimes and American Cancer Society.
Mary Ann is survived by two daughters, Cyndy (Mike) McBee of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Cylvia (Douglas) Toy of Centreville, Virginia; grandchildren, Mark (Elizabeth) McBee of Florence, Kentucky, Leah Elizabeth Lemon of Fairfax,
Virginia, and Sean (Jessica) McBee of Avon, Connecticut; great-grandchildren,
Gabe and Sophia McBee; sister-in-law, Margaret Sibbitt; brother-in-law, John
(Shirley) Markley; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles E. Sibbitt Jr., and sister, Eva Lou Fouts.
Visitation for Mary Ann will be held at Genda Funeral Home Reinke Chapel in Flora, on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, from 12:00 p.m. to the start of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora.
