Mary E. Christenson

Mary E. Christenson, 96, of Frankfort, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2015, at Wesley Manor Retirement Community in Frankfort.

She was born November 29, 1918, the oldest of 11 children, in Howard County, to Charles and Bertha Zimmerman Graham.  On August 30, 1941, she married Arthur L. Christenson; he preceded her in death December 19, 1999.

Mary graduated from Clay Township High School in 1937, and then attended Purdue University.  Mary and Arthur lived in Canton, OH, before moving to Frankfort in 1997.  Throughout her life, Mary was a homemaker, working two years in the British Embassy during World War II.  She was member of First United Methodist Church in Massillon, OH, United Methodist Women, and Garden Club.  Mary was a crucial member of the creation of Wilderness Center in Wilmot, OH, where she was also a nature guide; she was a nature lover and enjoyed spending time outdoors.  

Surviving Mary are one son, Paul (Marci) Christenson of Tempe, AZ; one daughter, Frieda (Tim) Howell of Greenfield; siblings, Edna (Frank) Jackson, Ruth Anderson, Jim (Velma) Graham, Esther Givens, John Graham, Paul (Peggy) Graham, Bob (Kathy) Graham, Norma (Cloid) Windmiller, and Sue (Arlis) Sheffield; seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Mary is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Erick Arthur Christenson; and one brother, William Graham.

Visitation for Mary will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Amanda Reid Memorial Chapel in Frankfort from 1:00 p.m. to the start of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m.  Chaplain Barbara Kinsler will officiate.  Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort.  Memorials in Mary’s name may be made to Wesley Manor Good Samaritan Fund or Wilderness Center.  Arrangements are entrusted to Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com
