Mary Ellen Cole Mattingly, 73, of Michigantown, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Witham Health Services in Lebanon, after a long battle with cancer.
She was born January 4, 1943, in Frankfort, to Merle and Pauline Irwin Cole. On November 8, 1962, Mary Ellen married John R. âDickâ Mattingly; he survives.
Mary Ellen graduated from Clinton Central in 1961. From Ball State University, she received both her bachelorâs and masterâs degrees in education, before teaching at Kirklin. Mary Ellen was a member of Michigantown Christian Church, member and registrar of the Captain Harmon Aughe DAR Chapter, and past State Secretary of the Indiana Hampshire Sheep Association.
In addition to her husband, Mary Ellen is survived by her two sons, John Cole (Kristy) Mattingly and David Tyra Mattingly; five grandchildren, Samuel, Tessa, Josie, Grace, and Kate Mattingly; and sister, Cathy (Mike) Rule.
Mary Ellen is preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Tyra Mattingly.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 6, 2016, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 4:00 p.m. to the start of the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. Pastor Karl Kercheval will officiate. A graveside service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Whiteman Cemetery in Michigantown.
