Mary âLorettaâ Canary Linton, 95, went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 14, 2014.
Loretta was born in Sullivan, Ind., on May 28, 1919, to Robert L. and Maggie M. Slonaker Canary. While still a baby, her family moved to Bloomington, Ill., where Loretta spent many of her formative years, attended school, and got her first job as a teller in a bank.
In the 1940âs, Loretta moved to Frankfort to attend Frankfort Pilgrim Holiness College, where she met her future husband, John Howard Linton, a veteran of World War II. They married in 1949; he preceded her in death on March 20, 1983.
Loretta worked well into her 80âs, holding positions as a nurseâs aide at Mulberry Lutheran Home, a factory worker at Malloryâs, and a companion and sitter at Wesley Manor, among others.
She is survived by a daughter, Jedonne Kay Linton Abston, and her husband, Jack L. Abston, of Frankfort; a son, LeMoyne Howard Linton of Kokomo; and two grandchildren, Jeremy Shelton and Darrell Shelton, both of Frankfort.
Loretta was a member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church on Rowe Street, pastored by Reverend James Farney, where she was fond of playing piano for the congregation. She would like to be remembered as a child of God and will be dearly missed.
Visitation for Loretta will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 11:00 a.m. to the start of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Entombment will follow at Green Lawn Mausoleum in Frankfort. Memorials in Lorettaâs name may be made to Pilgrim Holiness Church Missions. Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
