Mary E. Thompson, 94, of Rossville, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette exactly 10 years to the day of her daughter, Diane Thompson’s death.
Mary Evelyn (Hart) Thompson was born August 16, 1930, in Washington Township, Clinton County to William Russel Hart and Leoma (Hauff) Hart. The family moved to Madison Township in 1936 and went to Owen Township School for 7 years, then moved to Madison Township and graduated Mulberry High School in 1948. She worked for Public Service in Mulberry for 15 years during which she married Max Thompson in 1953. They were married for 62 years upon his death in 2015. They built a home south of Rossville and during that time they adopted their son David in 1964 and their daughter Diane in 1967. They moved to Washington, Illinois in 1968 and lived there for 5 years until they built their home in Germantown Hills, Illinois where they raised their children for 23 years until there return to Rossville in 1995 after Max Thompson’s retirement.
Mary had many talents including cooking and baking, sewing clothes for the family, organic gardening, refinishing furniture, and have designed and built three homes. She was a member of the Rossville Methodist Church, Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary for over 60 years.
Mary is survived by her son, David Thompson of Minneapolis, Minnesota and his husband, Matthew Wilson, sister-inlaw, Nancy Hart and her children, niece, Amanda, Chrissy and Jon, great niece, Lauren of Mulberry, sister, Wilma Tancey and her children, Nephew Tim, and Niece Kathy of Edwardsburg, Michigan.
Mary is preceded in death by Max Thompson (2015) and daughter Diane (2014), her parents Russel and Leoma Hart of Mulberry, parents-in-law John and Neva Thompson of Rossville, brother, Glen Hart, and brother-in-law, Michael Tancey.
A visitation and burial will be held for Mary at Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Bodine Chapel in Rossville on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 11am until the time of the service at 1pm. Pastor Bob Raschka will officiate. Burial will follow at Fair Haven Cemetery in Mulberry. Messages of condolence may be left at www.dayandgenda.com.
