Max M. Thompson, 85, of Rossville, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Milner Community Health Care.
He was born April 29, 1929, in Owen Township, Clinton County, to John E. and Neva M. Benedict Thompson. On January 31, 1953, he married Mary Evelyn Hart; she survives.
Max graduated from Rossville High School in 1947. He then served in the United States Army with the 393rd Field Artillery during the Vietnam War and in Germany from September 1951 to September 1953. Max worked at the Chevrolet garage in Rossville for 10 years. He was an insurance adjuster and underwriter for Farmers Mutual Insurance, Blackhawk Insurance and then Rockford Mutual Insurance; he retired after 28 years. The family returned to Rossville in 1995. He was a 70 year member of the Rossville United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge #318 (past Master), Eastern Star #437 (past Patron), American Legion #342 (past Commander), and Scottish Rite. Max was also one of the original starters of the Angel Hill Golf Course in Rossville. He enjoyed fishing in Wisconsin and Florida.
In addition to his wife, Max is survived by one son, David Thompson of West Des Moines, Iowa.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Diane S. Thompson.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. with Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Star service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at the funeral home. Funeral service for Max will follow. Burial will follow in Fair Haven in Mulberry. Memorials in Maxâs name may be made to Rossville United Methodist Church.
