Maxine Layton, 83, 350 Augsburg Lane, Mulberry, died at 6:02 a.m. March 22, 2011, in Mulberry Health and Retirement Community.
Mrs. Layton grew up in the Rossville area and graduated from Rossville High School in 1947. She was employed at Mallory Controls for 10 years, retiring in 1968. She lived in Cambria from 1960-2000, when she moved to Mulberry.
She was a member of Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church.
She was born Dec. 12, 1927, in Carroll County to Ira and Mary Emma (Jewel) Rock. She married Donald Layton Jr. on May 25, 1947, and he preceded her in death on May 21, 1994.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia A. (husband Harry) Myers of
Mulberry; two sons, Michael L. (wife Mary) Layton of Logansport and David A. (wife Carol) Layton of Rossville; two brothers, Louie H. (wife Peggy) Rock of Arizona and Paul (wife Dorothy) Rock of Frankfort; nine grandchildren, Sheri Marshall, Scott Myers, Ben Layton, Greg Layton, Daniel Layton, Cory Layton, Jared Layton, Mark Layton and Zachary Layton; and 10 great-grandchildren, Kristen, Whitney, Khloe, Avery, Brielle, Emily, Kasey, Katlin, Keagen and Tyler.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Crum; two brothers, Lee R. Rock and Earl Rock; and one grandson, Chad.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Bodine Funeral Home, Rossville. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery. Calling is 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
