Melba R. Ballard, 92, of Frankfort, passed away on Friday morning, March 11, 2016, at Clinton House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Frankfort.
She was born November 8, 1923, in St. Croix, IA to Herman and Minnie (Vick) Dziggel. On December 21, 1945, she married Raymond F. Ballard, who preceded her in death in 1961.
Melba worked for many years as a baker and a cook at various restaurants in Frankfort.
She loved the game of baseball and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include one daughter, Rose Jones of Frankfort; two sons, Ray (Janice) Ballard of Lebanon and Don (Annie) Ballard of Montezuma, IN; one daughter-in-law, Vicki Ballard; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Melba was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Sharon Comer; one son, David Ballard; one granddaughter, Chandra Comer; five sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 11:00 a.m until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Chuck Williams, from First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Kilmore Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted at the funeral home or memorial contributions can be made in Melba Ballardâs name to The American Heart Association.
