Melvin âJrâ Dellinger, 91, of Mulberry, passed away Friday, April 17, 2015 at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
He was born July 29, 1923, in South Bend, to Melvin I. and Mabel Heimbach Dellinger.
On June 26, 1949, he married Joanne Peters in Mulberry; she survives.
Melvin graduated from Michigantown High School in 1941. He then served in the United States Navy during World War II. After 34 years, he retired as a foreman in the maintenance department at Purdue University. Melvin was a member of the Mulberry United Methodist Church where he was also a trustee for 30 years, life member of the Mulberry Masonic Lodge No. 618, American Legion, Elks, and VFW, and a member of the USS Shangri-la Reunion Assn CV38 and the Moose. Melvin as an avid bowler.
In addition to his wife Melvin is survived by one son, Jeffrey Dellinger of Mulberry; Granddaughter, Ashley Dellinger and several nieces and nephews.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, James, Orlin and Grant.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at Genda Funeral Home Mulberry Chapel from 10:00 am â 1:00 pm with Masonic service starting at 1:00 pm with the funeral starting immediately after the Masonic service. Pastor Mike Crawford will officiate. Entombment will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort.
