Melvin Lee Miller, 91, formerly of Buck Creek, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2017, at Milner Community Healthcare.
He was born December 30, 1925, in Colburn, to Carl M. and Elsie M. Fisher Miller. On August 24, 1946, he married Mary Lois Boyd at her parentsâ home in Tippecanoe County; she preceded him in death on October 12, 2016.
Melvin attended Pyrmont Schools. Throughout his life, Melvin and Mary Lois lived on and were dedicated to the family farm for over 70 years before he moved to Milnerâs Healthcare in July 2016. He served for 45 years on the Buck Creek Volunteer Fire Department and was a life-long supporter of the organization. Melvin was a member of North Fork Old German Baptist Brethren Church in Pyrmont.
Surviving Melvin are his daughters, Janet (Dean) Deaton, of Rossville, Martha (Robert) Yonker, of Germantown Hills, IL, and Linda Miller, of Lafayette; sister-in-law, Esther Koble, of Flora; six grandchildren, Amy Flory, Aaron and Adam Deaton, Amanda Wilson, Grant Gangwer, and Bethany Hoffman; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Lois Wolf; and brother, Donald Miller.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel from 2:00 â 6:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 27, 2017, at North Fork Old German Baptist Brethren Church in Pyrmont, with the Home Brethren officiating. Burial will follow in North Fork Old German Baptist Brethren Cemetery. Memorials in Melvinâs name may be made to Buck Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
