Merle M. Hendry, 86, of Lafayette and formerly of Frankfort, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Indiana Veterans Home in Lafayette.
He was born July 4, 1927, in Tampa, Fla., the son of Richard and Ruth Quigley Tindall. Merle married the former Margarete Elizabeth Kirby; she preceded him in death November 8, 1960.
Merle served in the US Marine Corp during World War II where he was stationed in China. He was self employed and spent most of his life in Florida before moving to Frankfort in 2006. For those searching, Merle would have you read John 3:16-17.
Merle is survived by his son, Mark (Robin) Hendry of Frankfort; three grandchildren, Markanna Huffer of Kokomo, Amber Hendry of Frankfort, and Michelle Pierce of Florida; six great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Merle is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Michael Murdock; and one brother, Thomas Hendry.
Gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, August 12, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. A memorial service in honor of Merle will be held at the funeral home at 6 p.m. with Pastor Daniel Miller officiating. Inurnment will be in Garden of Memories in Tampa, Florida.
