Mildred Kirkman, 93, of Frankfort, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at Clinton House Rehab and Healthcare Center.
She was born January 4, 1923, in Union County, South Dakota, to Arthur and Fern Newbold Lykken. On September 28, 1940, she married Elmer Kirkman in Frankfort; he passed away on August 11, 1998.
She attended Frankfort High School. She worked for the Community School of Frankfort, as a cafeteria manager at the Frankfort Senior High School for over 16 years before retiring on October 24, 1984. Mildred was a member of Frankfort Baptist Temple where she served as treasurer for 20 years. She was a former member of the Clinton County Campers and Indiana State Camping Association. Mildred enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an avid Cubs fan.
Surviving are one sister, Lois (Estel) Rex of Mulberry; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Kirkman; grandchildren, Travis Kirkman, Jacob Kirkman, Nick Kirkman, Caleb Kirkman, and Issac Kirkman; four great grandchildren; special friend, Connie Carlson of Frankfort; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, sons, Jerry Kirkman and Dennis Kirkman; daughter, Karen Harris; and brother, Gerald Lykken.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2016, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 1:00 p.m. to the start of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Phil Whisler will officiate. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery. Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
