Mildred Regena Payne, 92, formerly of Boyelston, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Milner Community Healthcare in Rossville.
She was born November 28, 1923, in Boyelston, to Samuel and Alice J. Reed Walker. On February 22, 1947, she married Lester Robert Payne; he preceded her in death on August 29, 1994.
In 1942, Mildred graduated from Michigantown High School. Mildred retired in 1986, from Clinton County Hospital where she was an aide and physical therapy assistant. She was also a Clinton County Sherriffâs Office Matron. Mildred was a former member of the Michigantown Firemanâs Auxiliary, F.O.P. Auxiliary, and Boyelston Homemakers, and member of both the Boyelston Baptist Ladies Circle and the Boyelston Baptist Church. She was an avid quilter, enjoyed craft shows, craft shops, camping, fishing, and travelling, and was a member of National Hikers and Campers Association.
Surviving are her son, Samuel Robert (Janet) Payne of Frankfort; daughter, Mary Beth Thompson of Michigantown; brother, Wayne E. Walker of rural Frankfort; four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.
In addition to her husband, Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, eight sisters, and three brothers.
Funeral service will be held at Rossville Bible Fellowship Church at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, with Pastor Bruce White officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Kirklin. Memorials in Mildredâs name may be made to Boyelston Baptist Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort.
