Morris R. Cox, 81, of Frankfort, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2016, at Signature Healthcare at Parkwood in Lebanon.
He was born March 26, 1935, in Franklin, KY to William Lee and Mamie Mazel Davis Cox. He was formerly married to Mary Sparks and Eva âPeachâ Barker. On May 6, 1980, he married Shirley Hodges; she survives in Clarks Hill.
Morris grew up in Gallatin, TN, and lived parts of his life there; he always considered Gallatin to be his home even while living in Frankfort or Clarks Hill. Morris was always joyful in his faith and his music. He had recorded a country album in Nashville and performed his songs on TV. In 1982, Morris became an ordained minister and spread his ministry through music. He was a member of First Assembly of God in Gallatin, where he was also the music director.
In addition to his wife, Morris is survived by one son, Morris Wayne Cox of Frankfort; eight daughters, Mamie (Danny) Rippy of Lafayette, TN, Carolyn Thomason of Portland, TN, Linda (Michael) Stitt of Michigantown, Melany Fisher of Frankfort, Nancy Sheets of Frankfort, Christy (Philip) Woodard of Lafayette, TN, Donna (Billy) Birge of Frankfort, and Rebekah (Ishmael) McQuiller of Lafayette, IN; sister, Wilma Cook of Gallatin; 30 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Morris is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one grandson, Michael.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at First Wesleyan Church in Frankfort, from 4:00 â 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2016, at the church with Pastor Alan Downing officiating.
