Norman Gee Hufford, 81, passed away on Father's Day, Sunday, June 15th, 2014, in Clermont, Fla.
Norman was born on March 2nd, 1933, and was raised in Rossville, Ind. He was the son of John Lee & Roberta L. Gee Hufford of Rossville; both have preceded him in death.
On March 21st, 1953, Norman married Shirley Ann Carlyle Hufford of Sedalia, Ind. Together they enjoyed 51 years of marriage. Shirley Ann preceded him in death on May 7th, 2004.
Norman graduated from Rossville High School in 1951. In August of 1952, he enlisted into the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He served in the Navy from August 5th, 1952, to his discharge on August 3rd, 1956, where he earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer 3rd Class Navy Corpsmen. Following his discharge from the US Navy, he enrolled at Indiana University, Bloomington Campus, where he earned both a Bachelor of Science in
Science and Education in 1960 and a Masters of Science in Special Education in 1968.
Following his graduation from I U, he moved to Ft. Wayne, Ind. where he was employed for 6 years as the Chief Probation Officer for Allen County. He then moved to Arlington Heights, Ill., where he was employed for 12 years with the Illinois State Dept. of Mental Health in Chicago. He left that position to invest and own several (7-11) Convenience Store Franchisees which were located in Rolling Meadows, Algonquin, and Lake Zurich, Illinois. Following his retirement in 2011 from his ownership, he resided at his home in Clermont.
Through the many businesses he owned, Norm had many loyal and repeat customers who became part of his extended family of friends. Norm never met a stranger and always loved to share a good story or two while taking care of business. He was very outgoing and had an exuberant winning personality.
He is survived by one brother, Donald L. and Nancy Hufford, of Lafayette, Ind.; two daughters, Kelly Ann Hufford (husband, Dale), of Clermont, and Kerry Whitson of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two nephews, and one
niece.
Friends and family of the area are invited to attend a graveside service in Normanâs honor at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Rossville Cemetery with Pastor Allen Weldy officiating. Military Honors will be performed by the Carroll County Honor Guard. Memorials in Normanâs name may be made to Rossville School Foundation.
