Ollie Gertrude Jennings, 90, of Mulberry, died at 10:48 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at her residence. Born Aug. 4, 1921, in Green County, Ky. to the late Robert Elmer and Hattie Florence (Cofey) Young, she lived in Mulberry since 1974.
She married Willliam T. Whitlock on Oct. 27, 1941. He died Feb. 28, 1971. She then married Homer L. Jennings on Nov. 2, 1974. He survives.
Mrs. Jennings was a housewife and homemaker and also cleaned homes for some local familes. She was a member of Thorntown Baptist Church, where she helped for years with Bible school and nursery activities. She also served as a Messenger on the church council. She enjoyed taking care of her home, gardening, flowers and being outside. She especially loved her family and being with them.
Surviving are two sons, Charles E. Whitlock (wife: Mary Sue) of Rossville and Jerry Whitlock (wife: Susie) of Lafayette; one daughter Linda Carter (husband: John) of Lafayette; one step-son Homer Leroy Jennings Jr. of Edmonton, Ky.; nine grandsons and one granddaughter, Debra Ferguson, who was her caregiver for the past two years.; one brother, Welby Young (wife: Mary Alice) of Greensburg, Ky., and one sister, Ruth Chaney of N.C. Also surviving are 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ann Whitlock; two sisters, Ruby Kelley, and Virgie Simpson and five brothers, Kenny, Rollin, Aubrey, Selby and Henry Young.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Bodine Funeral Home in Mulberry. Service is Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Denver Fields and Leroy Jennings officiating. Burial at Wyandotte Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Thorntown Baptist Church.
