Orville E. Howard Jr., 88, of Frankfort, passed away Monday, November 17, 2014, at Wesley Manor Retirement Community.
He was born June 2, 1926, in Wabash County, to Orville E. and Anna Brendice Currens Howard Sr. On August 15, 1948, he married Helen D. Buck; she preceded him in death June 23, 2007.
Orville served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946. He graduated from Purdue University in 1950. Orville was a lifelong educator, beginning at Millersburg where he taught vocational ag classes. From 1961-1972, Orville was principal and then school superintendent for Carroll Consolidated School Corporation. From 1974 to his retirement in 1988, Orville was principal at Kyger School in Frankfort. Orville served on the board at Ability Services, was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school, and was a former member of Rotary.
Surviving Orville are one son, Dr. Thomas E. (Zoe) Howard of Warsaw; one daughter, Bonnie M. Fox of Lafayette; one brother, Joe Howard of Roann; one sister, Patricia Young of Wabash; five grandchildren, Matthew (Emily) Howard, Mark Howard, Ariel Howard, Molly (Brandon) Schwierman, and Tim Fox; and one great grandson, Landen Schwierman.
In addition to his wife, Orville is preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and two brothers.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2014, at St. Matthew United Methodist Church from 1:00 p.m. to the start of the memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Justin Fisher will officiate.
