Owen Richard Reed

Owen Richard Reed, 86 of Rossville, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017 at his home. He was born October 22, 1930 in Hillisburg to Owen Victor and Velma Marie Miller Reed and moved to the Rossville area in 1944.  

Owen graduated from Rossville Consolidated Schools in 1948 and was a Korean War Veteran, having served in the United States Army.  He was employed at National Homes in Lafayette from 1948 until 1986 and then worked for Rossville Consolidated Schools.  Owen was a member of the Rossville Masonic Lodge #318 and enjoyed fishing.

On September 16, 1956, Owen married the former Dellene Esther Bonderson; she survives with their four children, James (companion Markie McCracken) Reed, of Rossville, Jon Reed, of Rossville,  Joe (Rosa) Reed, of Rossville and Tina (Roger) Meyer, of Monticello; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Clara Mavity, of Lafayette, and Frances Kay “Katie” Tipmore, of Bay City, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Barbara Hamm, and brother, Robert Reed.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Funeral service honoring Owen will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Genda Funeral Home-Rossville Chapel with Chaplain Tom Covington officiating. Burial will follow in Rossville Cemetery.  Memorials in Owen’s memory may be made to the Rossville Food Pantry.
