Raymond Lee Carroll, Jr., 95, passed away September 10, 2012, in Frankfort, Ind. He was born March 9, 1917, in Pike County, Mo. to Raymond L. and Nellie Middleton Carroll.
Mr. Carroll graduated from the University of Missouri and completed graduate work at Iowa State and Michigan State Universities. During World War II, he served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army.
Raymond had a long and varied career in the agriculture and education fields. He worked as a Purdue Extension agent, manager for the American Dairy Association, field supervisor for Del Monte, and vocational agriculture teacher. Later Raymond served Clinton County as a probation officer.
He was a member of the National Auctioneers Association, Optimists, Masonic Lodge and Toastmasters. He participated in work with The Gideons and St. Matthew United Methodist Church where he was a member. His lifelong passion was to enrich and better the lives of those less fortunate, serving and giving of himself.
Raymond is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Florence B. Carroll. He is survived by six children; Mary Nell Carroll, Ray (Barbara) Carroll, Flo (Thomas) Conklin, Becky (Greg) Humbach, Maggy (Bob) Dent, and Doris (Joe) Lenehan. The Carrollâs have 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. They also served as foster parents to many children.
A graveside internment will be held at Green Lawn Cemetery on Monday, October 15 at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be made in his memory to the Clinton County Ministry of Hope.
