Rev. Carl Romey

October 5, 1948 — June 16, 2024

Reverend Carl Romey, 75, earned his angel wings on June 16, 2024. He was born October 5,1948 in Fort Wayne, IN to E. Eugene Romey and Thelma Paschal Romey. 

At the age of 9, he felt a call to missionary service from a lesson given by his parents. Later while in college he felt a definite call to Brazil. Carl graduated from Olivet Nazarene University in 1971 and attended Nazarene Theological Seminary. 

He pastored churches in Waterloo, IN and Pace, FL before spending 12 years in Brazil. He felt at home as soon as he arrived. In Brazil, he lived in Curitiba, Brasilia, Recife and Sao Paulo. Upon his return he pastored churches in High Springs, FL and Gainesville, FL. Over the years he was a minister, mentor, pastor to the unhoused, counselor and district superintendent. 

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jo Batts Romey of 51 years. Two children Curtis Michael Romey (Amanda) and Valerie Jean-Marie Romey. And 9 grandchildren, Zain Mann, Asher Mann, Atticus Mann, Ivan Mann, Ethan Walters, Caleb Walters, Isaac Walters, Stella Walters and Anna Azeredo. One brother, Byron, (Norma). He has several “adopted” children, Alberto Azeredo, Gabriella Maia and Joselita Junia Viegas.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial gift to First Church of the Nazarene. A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Kilmore Cemetery.
