Frankfort

Richard C. Byrd, 86, of Frankfort, passed away surrounded by his family on August 29, 2024. He was born August 2, 1938, in Arkansas, to Alfred and Willie Mae (Surratt) Byrd. 

A 1957 graduate of Michigantown High School, Richard married Deanna Mockerman on March 1, 1959, and she survives. 

Richard worked for 54 years at Harmesons/ KayCo, where he was a supervisor prior to his retirement in 2009. He was a veteran of the Indiana National Guard, and a member of New Life Assembly of God. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and spending time with his family. 

In addition to his loving wife of 65 years, Richard will be greatly missed by his children, Crystal (Scott) Meibeyer of Frankfort, Kevin (Renee) Byrd of Georgia, and Teresa Koebcke of Frankfort; grandchildren, Christopher, Tyler, Nicole, Molly, Aric, Aaron, Nick, and Derek; great-grandchildren, Alec, Elijah, Maverick, Karsyn, Charlotte, and Dawson; and brothers, John (Judy) Byrd of Arkansas and Tom (Marie) Byrd of Jasper.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard “Richie” Alan Byrd; granddaughter, Cassandra “Cassie” Byrd; and two brothers, Jim and Eddie Joe.

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 1, 2024, from 3pm until the start of the service at 5pm at New Life Assembly of God. Pastors Ken Rushing and Brad Fullerton will officiate. Day & Genda Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials in Richard’s name may be made to New Life Assembly of God or Clinton County Humane Society.
