Richard Earl ""Shakey"" Newman, Sr.

Richard Earl “Shakey” Newman Sr., 68, of Reelsville, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2013, at his home.

He was born August 3, 1945, in Lebanon, the son of Frances & Sylvia E. Delany Newman.  Richard was formerly married to Betty Jean Nease Coffman and Cheryl Newman.

Richard graduated Clinton Prairie High School.  He worked at Del Monte and Harmeson’s in Frankfort.  He later worked at HAPCO in Greencastle until their closure.  Richard was a member of the N.R.A. and National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and listening to county music.

Surviving are two daughter, Tina (Scott) Stewart of rural Frankfort and Lisa (Albert) Bowen of Missouri; two sons, Kenny Newman and Brad Newman, both of Crawfordsville; ten grandchildren, James, Steven, Chad, Kayla, Megan, Kristen, Rosa, Katie, Jesse, and Angel; 11 great grandchildren, Corbin, Rebecca, Hank, Emily, Jayden, Jasmin, Kayden, Adaira, Netheya, Justin, and Aleiaha.

In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his infant son, Billy Joe Newman; son, Richard Earl Newman Jr.; two brothers, Jim Newman and Larry Newman; twin great grandsons, James Scott Smith and James Joseph Smith II.  

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort.  Memorials in Richard’s name may be made to the N.R.A. or National Diabetes Association.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
