Richard Lee âDickâ Wingard, 81, of Flora, passed peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Delphi succumbing to a long battle with Parkinsonâs.
He was born August 11, 1934, at Logansport Memorial Hospital to Robert Carroll and Myrtle Fay (Zinn) Wingard. On May 24, 1958, he married Evelyn Marie Waters at Cutler Presbyterian Church; she survives.
Dick graduated from Flora High School in 1953 and studied agriculture at Purdue University and later attended Indiana University Kokomo. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. Dick was a Millwright and worked 37 years at Chrysler Corporation before his retirement. He also farmed for 27 years and was a 50 year member of the Flora Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. Dick and his family enjoyed many summers in Brown County at their cabin. Additionally, he and Evelyn enjoyed traveling extensively on their motorcycle and going on cruises.
Dick is also survived by his four daughters; Catharine (Sandie) Wingard of Nashville, Dee Bubel of Flora, Julie (Brad) Hislip of Odon, and Bobbie (Jay) Young of Bremen; brother, Robert C. (Karon) Wingard, Jr. of Bloomington; five grandchildren; Corban (Mandy) Young of Orlando, FL, Caleb (Stephanie) Young of South Bend, Levi Young of Bloomington, and Lydia and Esther Young, both of Bremen.
In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by one sister, Joan Wingard.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 23, at Deer Creek Presbyterian Church from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Pastor Harry Roselle will officiate the 1:00 p.m. funeral service; burial will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora.
