Rita Joan Garrison

Rita Joan Garrison, 84, a Flora resident, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2015, at St. Anthony Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Lafayette.

She was born November 21, 1930, in Mishawaka, Indiana to George and Gladys Medlock Banes.  On September 24, 1948, she married Vaughn Garrison at Grace Brethren Church in Flora; he passed on September 18, 2009.

Rita graduated from Flora High School in 1948. She was a homemaker and was also a member of Flora United Methodist Church, past president of Carroll Country Club, and member of Delta Theta Chi Sorority.  Rita enjoyed playing golf, bridge and traveled extensively and loved her cats.

Rita is survived by one son, Kent (Cathy) Garrison of West Lafayette; daughters, Debra Maines of West Lake, Ohio, Teresa (Randy) Price of Monticello and Kimberly (Mark) Kirby of West Point, Indiana; one brother, Arlan Banes; and seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Rita is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Genda Funeral Home Reinke Chapel in Flora, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. to the start of the memorial service at 1:00 p.m.  Mark Kirby will officiate.  Memorials in Rita’s name may be made to Almost Home Humane Society.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
