Robert E. Jones

Robert E. Jones, 82, of Rossville, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at IU Health in Lafayette.

He was born May 7, 1932, in Greenville, OH, the son of Daniel P. and Velma F. Boli Jones.  On September 21, 1957, he married Joyce A. Hadley in Columbus, OH; she survives.

In 1950, Robert graduated from Greenville High School and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science.  He then served in the United States Army from September, 1954 to August, 1956.  Robert worked for 25 years for the American Guernsey Cattle Club before joining Purdue University in the Animal Science Department from where he retired in 1999 for 20 years of service.  

Robert was a member of Rossville Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder.  He served for six years on the Board of Directors for both the Rossville Volunteer Ambulance Service and the Rossville Area Transit Board.  Robert was a current member of the Rossville Lions club where he was also a past president.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived his three children, Steven (Janet) Jones of Lafayette, Michael (Lois) Jones of Dayton, and Betsy Slabaugh of Gainesville, FL; four grandsons, Adam Jones, Troy Jones, Tyler Jones, and Nathan Jones; and two sisters, Rebecca (K. James) Faze of West Milton, OH, and Sonia Amspaugh of Louisville, KY.

His is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sandra Jones.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014, at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel.  A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Rossville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ruby Kleymann officiating.  Memorials in Robert’s name may be made to the Blaine Crowl Memorial Scholarship at Purdue University, The Rossville Presbyterian Church Mission and Evangelism Fund, or the Greater Lafayette Habitat for Humanity program.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com
