Robert Ellis Douglass, 88, a life-long resident of Frankfort, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2015, at his home.
He was born December 8, 1926, in Frankfort, to Leslie and Lilly Patchett Douglass. On October 26, 1947, he married Phyllis Layton; she survives.
Robert was a graduate of the 1947 class of Frankfort Senior High School. He then served in the United States Army during World War II. Robert worked for 44 ½ years on the Nickel Plate, Norfolk Western, and later Norfolk Southern Railroads as a foreman in the car department before retiring in 1978 as a wreck master. He regularly attended Eastside Christian Church, and was a member of the American Legion and Good Sam Club. Robert enjoyed travelling and camping with his wife of 67 years; he was a good grandpa and great provider throughout his life.
In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by one son, Steven (Rebecca) Douglass of Frankfort; one daughter, Andrea (Jeff) Battcher of Thorntown; two sisters, Marilyn Flareau and Carolyn Redmon, both of California; six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald Douglass.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 13, 2015, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 4:00 â 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, with Pastor Frank Harness officiating. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort, with military graveside honors. Memorials in Robertâs name may be made to Eastside Christian Church.
