Robert Harold Goodnight, 89, of Mulberry, died at 6:15 a.m. Monday, May 28, 2012, in his home.
He was born Sept. 28, 1922 in Colfax, to William Jackson and Mary Ettie (Ward) Goodnight. He married Geneva Ruth Roberts April 25, 1943. She preceded him in death Oct. 11, 2008.
Mr. Goodnight attended Dayton schools and was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army as a tech sergeant from 1943-1945. He had formerly worked for National Seal, and was a farmer and cattle breeder up until his death. Robert was a hardworking man with abilities in his machine and upholstery shop with his wife, over-all a jack of all trades, even until this day.
He is survived by a son: Robert Eugene (Tina) Goodnight of Raliegh, N.C.; three daughters: Jacqueline (Eric) Halsema of Callao, Mo., Pamela Ruth (Gerald) Shelburne of Thorntown and Sandra (Dennis) Bond of Rossville; 10 grandchildren: Kimberly, Samantha, Geneva, Cynthia, Angela, William Douglas, Jennifer, Rebecca, Anthony âAJâ & Nicholas; 15 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Berniece Galey, Ethel Reed, Zelma Rice and Aletha Shelton Parks; four brothers: Ralph, Omer, Orville and William Junior; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, May 31 at Genda Funeral Home. Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 1 at the funeral home, with Pastor Allen Weldy officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery with military burial rights.
