Robert J. âBobâ Gangwer, 83, of Rossville, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Health Care in Delphi.
He was born June 26, 1932, in Cutler, to Lloyd and Ersie Bowen Gangwer. On April 9, 1955, he married Arlene Plank in Cutler; she survives.
Bob graduated from Cutler High School in 1950, and then served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a farmer throughout his working life. In 2006, he retired from Purdue University after 23 years and from Imperial Travel where he worked part-time for over 20 years. Bob attended Rossville United Methodist Church and was a member of both the American Legion and VFW. He served on the original board that started the Rossville Volunteer Ambulance Service.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his children, Dan (Karen) Gangwer of Lafayette, Dean Gangwer (companion, Kim) of Cutler, Deborah (Dennis) Shockey of Delphi, Sondra (Larry) Lambert of Maryland, and Gail (Andy) Ladd of Cutler; sister, Phyllis Mummert of Cutler; brother, Don (Irma) Gangwer of Cutler; 12 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Ann Ward; and one great grandchild.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2016, at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016, at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Raschka officiating. Burial will follow in Ball Hill Cemetery in Cutler, with military honors. Memorials in Bobâs name may be made to Rossville Volunteer Ambulance Service.
