Robert L. Ray

Robert Lee “Bobby” “Hobba” Ray, 65, a life-long Frankfort resident, entered into his eternal home on Saturday, August 6, 2016, IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, after suffering a severe stroke.

Bob was born May 16, 1951, to Joseph E. and Martha F. Unrue Ray.  On February 26, 1977, he married the former Kim Wilson; together they shared 39 ½ years of marriage.

In 1969, Bob graduated from Frankfort Senior High School.  You could still find him in the stands on most games rooting on the Hot Dogs.  Bob was currently working maintenance at Wal-Mart in Frankfort.  He had worked most of his life as a Chrysler mechanic, receiving numerous awards and certifications in his years as a technician.  Bob was particularly proud of his Viper Certification.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Frankfort, and former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose.

Bob loved life and never met a stranger; he talked to everyone.  His passion for life kept him occupied with fishing and any kind of racing.  Bob loved to help young children learn to fish.  One of his favorite fishing holes was the City Lagoons.  He loved his buddies and loved to share “fish” stories.  You could find Bob at most racing events close by.  In his younger days, Bob raced his blue and white Nova at Bunker Hill.  He especially loved midgets and sprints.  Bob followed NHRA drag racing of which his son, Evan, was a crew member on the Make-a-Wish funny car team.  Bob was respectfully known in the racing world as “Pops” because everyone loved him.  He also enjoyed casually playing golf.

Surviving Bob are his wife, Kim Ray; the lights of his life, his sons, Robert “Chad,” and his wife, Jada, and Evan Lee, and his companion, Candace Lashbrook; his precious grandsons, Jackson Lee Ray and Parker Andrew Ray, Chad’s sons; three brothers, Jerry, of Syracuse, Bill, of Monticello, and Joe (Linda), of Michigantown; three sisters, Carolyn (Bob) Blubaugh, of Lebanon, Marolyn (Terry) Hale, of Lebanon, and Sandy Ray, of Falls Church, VA; three brothers-in-law, Ray (Bev) Wilson, of Grand Rapids, MI, and Frank Adams and David Sebree, both of Frankfort; and two sisters-in-law, Becky Ticen, of Amsterdam, NY, and Linda (Don) Walker, of Taylorsville.  Bob is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many wonderful friends.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, Fred and Doris Wilson; and two sisters-in-law, Sandy Sebree and Barbara Adams.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at the funeral home with Pastor Chuck Williams officiating.  Burial will follow in Bunnell Cemetery in Frankfort.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob’s name may be made to the Frankfort Lagoons.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
