Robert L. Smith Sr.

Robert L. Smith Sr., 92, formerly of Rossville, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Rosewalk Village in Lafayette.

He was born July 26, 1922, in Attica, to Harry Owen and Madge Mortimore Smith.  On February 1, 1943, he married Alice Evans; she preceded him in death on January 28, 2015.

Robert graduated from Attica High School.  He then served in the United States Army Air Corp. during World War II.  Robert had worked at Home Hospital in Lafayette before joining the Indiana Veterans Home staff.  Robert loved Jesus Christ and was an ordained minister.  He was a long time Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan.  Robert could fix just about anything, electrical, plumbing, and heating and cooling; he was a “go to” guy.

Robert is survived by his children, Robert L. (Sheila) Smith Jr. of Batesville, Elaine L. Smith and Ellen L. Smith, both of Lexington, KY, Laura (Neal) Hawkins of Rossville, and Amy L. Arnett of Lafayette; grandchildren, Kristin, Alissa (Anthony), Alice (Ben), Alex, and Robby; and two great grandchildren, Andy and Luanne

In addition to his wife, Robert is preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Anna K. Hawkins and Vincent M. Smith.

Visitation will be held at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to the start of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.  Pastor Wes Campbell will officiate.  Graveside service and burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Riverside Cemetery in Attica with military graveside honors.  Memorials may be made to Lafayette VFW, Attica VFW, or Attica Volunteer Police Department.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
